Today is the day! it’s the opening day of the Galway Racing festival and we’re well represented. We’re sending 7 horses down to Ballybrit however, one of them is a reserve.

LETHAL STEPS is our first of what will be a very long week in the opener: the Galwaybayhotel.com & Galmont.com Novices’ Hurdle. His form looks like it’s on an upward trajectory and may be well set to open our account at the meeting. He’s not the most straightforward horse and Davy Russell takes the ride.

Next is the Easyfix Handicap Hurdle over 2m. We send a few forward for this contest, however Empire Burleque will be a reserve. Top of the weights is CATS FOR CASH who ran very well last time out to come 2nd. The weight will be a significant burden to carry but Davy has chosen to partner with him over our other runner. MONEKYLOU is our second representative in the race and in contrast is towards the bottom of the weights. He’s taken very well to the National Hunt game and is still relatively unexposed. Denis O’Regan is on board and hopefully the pair have slipped under the radar and can produce a good performance.

The first flat race of the meeting is the Claregalwayhotel.ie Irish EBF Maiden over 7f. PINK JAZZ will take his post. It’s a nice race with 8 runners and no trainer is double handed. Fitness won’t be an issue and the extra furlong will hopefully bring about a bit of improvement in him. The trusty Declan McDonogh rides.

We take a breather for a couple of races before our next runner in the Eventus Handicap over 1m4f. GERRY’S WAY has been given a significant increase in trip partnered by a drop in weight. He won off 9st 5lbs a few starts ago and hopefully he can replicate that form here. Declan McDonogh rides.

Our final runner of the day is SOLDIER HILL in the Monami Construction INH Flat Race. The maestro Jamie Codd will be onboard. Having one run under his belt already, today should hopefully see some improvement.

We wish all our horses and riders the very best of luck and to for our owners to have the very best time at this year’s Galway Festival!
