The weekend is finally here and we have some very exciting racing ahead of us. We have 13 definite runners today at Fairyhouse and 2 reserves. And 1 over in Newbury.
For the Jim Ryan Racecourse Services Beginners Chase we have 2 going to post. CARTWRIGHT makes a return to the national hunt sphere having had a couple of runs on the flat during the summer. He also tackles fences for the first time. He is very experienced on the track and hopefully Davy Russell can make the most of that here. CRACKING SMART is our other runner in this. He was 2nd on debut over fences before falling and running behind Faugheen last time. Jack Kennedy is back in action and hopefully the pair can do well.
For the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares Handicap Chase we have another 2 runners. MRS LOVETT will be at the tougher end of the weights today and will have it all to do based on her previous runs. Davy Russell will take the ride. ISLE OF DESTINY is our second runner who will be carrying a full stone less then Mrs Lovett. She has done well in the mares division and hopefully a slight drop in trip will be what she needs.
The EasyFix Handicap Chase is next for which we have 3 runners. At the top of the weights is DUCA DE THAIX carrying 11st 10lbs. He seemed a bit out of his depth last time out so we have dropped him back in class. Sean O’Keeffe has been booked to ride. DOCTOR PHOENIX also runs in this and is of a similar story, Davy Russell has been booked to ride. Lastly is AVENIR D’UNE VIE who will be having his first run for us having come from Henry De Bromhead’s at the sales. The horse has had good form in the past and we will be hoping to revive that. Jack Kennedy will take the ride.
It’s a big runner maiden hurdle next. We have only managed to get one runner in for certain and that is CONFLATED. He will be very much at the top of the weights, carrying 11st 12lbs in the shape of Jack Kennedy. Ran on well last time to finish 3rd at a big price. Elusive Rebeldom and Desire De Joie make up the Reserve 2 and 3 spots.
A much smaller field makes up the next race, the Christmas Party De 14 Rated Novice Hurdle. DEFINITE PLAN is our representative here. This horse continues to surprise us as he pushed Battle of Midway to the line last time out when very much unfancied. He has been penalised for his efforts and is top weight with 11st 9lbs. Although a small field, there are a few good ones with lower weights. Hopefully he’ll continue on this trajectory as he is certainly making up for his questionable start on the track. Davy Russel will ride.
For the penultimate race we have only one runner again, OCEAN VOYAGE. She kept along at the same pace last time to finish 7th. She is very low in the weights here and Jack Kennedy will be taking the ride.
Lastly we have the bumper for which we have 3 runners. First is AXIOMATIC who we will claim off with Paddy Vaughan. He was 2nd last time out and the claim should help him out a bit. Lisa O’Neill will be onboard BIKO for this event who ran on well under pressure on debut. That should bring on a bit of improvement in him. Finally is ESKYLANE who was a point to point winner on his last start by 5ls. Jamie Codd will be taking the ride
That might be the last of proceedings for our Irish runners, but we have the Galway plate winner BORICE in the Ladbrokes Trophy Chase. This looks like a very good renewal of the race with the betting to be taken up by Willie’s Cabaret Queen and OK Corral of Nicky Henderson. Borice’s form fits in nicely with a lot of these horses and many of the Galway Plate runners having won since. This will be a slight step up in trip from the Galway plate but this race has been the plan for a while. Daryl Jacob will be taking the ride and we wish the pair the very best of luck.
