Happy St. Patricks Day, albeit a slightly quieter one! The virus outbreak has turned the world upside down and we’re very fortunate to be allowed continue racing. It ensures we still have a job in the morning and we’re taking every precaution on the yard to make sure no one comes into harms way. Today we have runners at two meetings, one in Down Royal and the other in Wexford. Both are being run behind closed doors.
For Down Royal we have 5 runners in a very healthy card and we kick off with the last time winner METAL MAN in the third race. This horse sprung a bit of a surprize last time after a very disappointing run where he had excuses. This will be his debut in handicapping company and he is the only juvenile in the field so gets a weight allowance. It will be tough to run against the seasoned handicappers. Hopefully he can put up a good performance against his older rivals and Denis O’Regan will ride.
We skip a race and have two runners in the five field Racing TV Chase. American Grand National winner JURY DUTY hasn’t had the greatest time of it recently and drops down in grade here and will be ridden by Sean Flanagan. A similar story could be written for MONBEG NOTORIOUS who will be ridden by Denis O’Regan. It’ll be a huge advantage to have two runners in this small field.
Finally we have two in the bumper, BETH HORAN and IMPERIAL ALLURE. Beth has been very consistent and has slowly climbed the ladder where she was 2nd last time out. We’ve decided to claim off her with Paddy Vaughan who takes off 7lbs. Imperial Allure will be the choice of Lisa O’Neill. This mare is also finding improvement in her runs and hopefully this will be another.
We start racing a bit earlier over in Wexford, where FLYING RISK runs in the mares maiden hurdle and will be off a high weight then some. The ground was a bit heavy for her last time and the drying conditions will definitely suit her. We hope she can get her head in the frame, Davy Russell will take the ride.
Our next runners come in the third race where we have a pair of juveniles for the novice handicap hurdle. INSANE BOLT and MOGHRAM will both get weight for age allowances here and will be near the bottom of the weights. Luke Dempsey will ride Insane Bolt while Rachael Blackmore will be on Moghram.
We have another pair for the next race, the Micheal O’Murchadha Memorial Handicap Hurdle. TEXARD didn’t drop in the ratings after his last run and will be near the head of the weights here. It’s only a small field and he will be ridden by Davy Russell. ZAMBEXI FIX should appreciate the ground as a big horse who can slog through it, Luke Dempsey will hopefully get a nice tune out of him.
Lastly we have ANYTHING IS LIKELY in the bumper who will be partnered by Jamie Codd, this will be the first runner for the gelding and hopefully it can be a good one.
We wish all our runners and riders the very best of luck and thank everyone for allowing us to continue to do our jobs in the uncertain time. We are doing our best to help keep the infection rates down while still running a business.
