We may not be having an English Grand National this year but Downpatrick are providing us with a wonderful Ulster National card. We won’t have anything for the first race but have plenty for some of the rest.

For the WKD Rated Hurdle we have 3 runners in a field of 11. ROAD TO DUBAI was a 6L winner last time out in Perth back in September and returns with 5lbs claimer Sean O’Keeffe in the saddle. TEXARD didn’t quite have the going he wanted last time but should appreciate the testing ground here and will be partnered by Keith Donoghue. Finally we have THE VERY MAN was a welcomed winner last time out when scoring by 3Ls and he will be partnered by Davy Russell.

HELL ON EARTH goes for the handicap hurdle next, in another full field of 15. He has 10lbs to find with Dollar Value but the conditions shousl be in his favour. Davy Russell has been booked to ride. Next up is the feature race, the Randox Ulster National over 3m4f. Our top weight horse is GUN DIGGER who had his first win in two years at Leopardstown last time out. We’ve decided to claim off him with Gavin Brouder. GENERAL PRINCIPLE ran really well the last day to finish 4th. He looks like he’s coming into a nice bit of form now and Sean O’Keeffe rides and takes off 5lbs. CHEB DE KERVINIOU was unlucky not to win last time out in the same race. It looked like things just went a little wrong at the last fence and that was all it took to loose first place. He tries very hard and Rachael Blackmore has formed a great partnership with the horse. ITS ALL GUESSWORK will be running for the first time over the longer distance and will be ridden by Davy Russell. OUT SAM ran a huge race at Cheltenham to run on for 3rd in the Cross Country, he will be ridden by Jamie Codd. Finally we have POORMANS HILL who will be partnered by Kevin Brogan, who takes of a valuable 7lbs.

We don’t have anything for the next two races but move on to the bumper where we have two. BALLYADAM was a bit keen last time out and didn’t get to show us what he was made of. He is a nice horse and we home he can improve from that run. FIDJI EMERY hasn’t shown us much and we have decided to put cheek pieces on to try an put a spark into him, Lisa O’Neill will ride.

We wish everyone the very best of luck and a safe return.
